How To Remove Wallpaper

Rejoice—those days of gruelling wallpaper removal are gone! No more dealing with stubborn bits left clinging to the wall, making you think twice about ever putting up wallpaper again. With Milton & King’s non-woven, paste-the-wall wallpaper, those removal woes are truly a thing of the past.

When it comes to wallpaper quality, it’s not only about the design, colour, and ease of installation; quality also counts when it’s time to remove it. At Milton & King, we’re constantly improving, and over recent years, our wallpaper has become a cut above the rest. Our premium quality shines through, both during installation and when it’s time for a change.

Take a look at this short clip from our office, where we’re peeling off wallpaper—completely dry, with no spray solution required.

Allie from @proverbsthirtyonegirl on Instagram also shared how she effortlessly removed her Tile Progress wallpaper without using water, and it came off beautifully.

Preparing For Removal Before You Wallpaper

Preparation is key, and the better your prep work, the easier removal will be. Smoothing, cleaning, and priming your wall before applying wallpaper makes a huge difference. Using a strippable paste can also make removal simpler, though it’s best avoided in high-humidity areas like bathrooms. Check out our blog post, How to Prepare Your Wall for Wallpaper, for more detailed tips.

Steps for Removing Wallpaper

The usual method for removing wallpaper involves spraying it with a solution made from equal parts hot water and vinegar to loosen the paste, or alternatively, fabric softener can work well too. Here’s a quick guide:

  1. Combine equal parts hot water and fabric softener in a large spray bottle.
  2. Use a scoring tool or razor to create small horizontal cuts in the wallpaper, allowing the solution to soak through.
  3. Spray the wallpaper liberally and let it sit for around 15 minutes.
  4. Peel the wallpaper from the bottom, lifting upwards.
  5. Use hot, soapy water to clean away any remaining paste.

Libby (@libbylivingcolorfully) also showed us just how easily her Garden Bloom wallpaper came off when she was moving flats, using a scoring tool and wallpaper solution to make the process effortless.

The old stigma of tedious wallpaper removal is officially over with this new generation of non-woven wallpaper. Rest assured, if you want to refresh your space with new wallpaper, taking down the old one won’t be a hassle.

This wallpaper is designed to be robust and long-lasting, yet it can be removed when needed. So, decorate as you like without feeling tied to a lifelong decision!
